STOP in the Name of Love
Traffic Safety Campaign

More than 1 million collisions occur at traffic signals each year, and the vast majority involve red light running. Approximately half of those running red lights indicate it was because they were in a hurry. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation and the American Trauma Society, one in three Americans know someone who has been injured or killed in a red light collision. It takes as little as 47 seconds, the average wait for a green light, to save a life.

On Monday, February 23, the Los Alamitos City Council proclaimed February, Stop in the Name of Love Month. Through public awareness and education, a consortium of trauma centers advocate to reduce the serious injuries and deaths caused by red light running in Orange County. Nationally, California ranks 8th in red light fatal crashes, and within the state, Orange County ranks 2nd. From 2000 – 2002, there were 55 collisions caused by red light violations in the City of Los Alamitos. Those collisions resulted in 51 injuries and one death.

This is a preventable problem, please help make our community safer…Stop on Red!
