After receiving a parking
citation you must follow the directions printed on the citation. You may
either pay the fine assessed for the violation(s), or you may contest
the citation if it was issued in error by taking the following steps:
- As soon as possible, go to the
police station and pick up a “Request For Parking Citation Review”
form. Fill it out and return it to the police department. It must be
submitted within 21 days of the citation being issued. No consideration
for review will be allowed after 21 days.
- The On-Duty Watch Commander or
the Parking Services Sergeant will review the citation and determine if
the citation was issued in error and can be dismissed. If the citation
is not dismissed, you may appeal the decision.
- An appeal is then reviewed by a
civilian who is contracted by the city to review Requests for Dismissal.
The notice you return requesting an appeal must be accompanied by the
penalty assessment (fine) on the parking citation.
If a request for dismissal is
granted, you do not have to pay the fine, and the payment accompanying
the appeal is returned to you.
If a request for dismissal is
not granted, you must pay the original fine.
The parking violation procedure is
a civil process. There are no court remedies beyond the appeal process
described above.
