Red light cameras were installed in Los Alamitos to improve traffic safety.
Red light cameras were installed at the two intersections with the most
violations:
Katella Avenue & Los Alamitos Blvd
Katella Avenue & Bloomfield Street
"Drivers who enter on yellow..."
Drivers who enter on yellow and find themselves in an intersection when the light changes to red aren’t photographed. This technology is intended to catch motorists who enter an intersection after the signal has turned red. |
A Los Alamitos Police Officer will review each citation before it is issued.
Tickets are mailed to the vehicle owner only in cases where it’s clear the vehicle ran the red light and the driver’s gender matches that of the registered owner or a licensed driver in their household.
How was the Red Light Camera program implemented?
A public hearing was held to solicit community input on the project.
A public awareness campaign was initiated.
Signs have been posted to remind motorists of the photo enforcement.
A 30-day warning period began on August 31, 2005.
Actual citations will be issued beginning September 30, 2005. |
The signal light is red
for a reason…so stop!
The fine for a
red light violation is
$336.00.
