LOS ALAMITOS POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Citizen Academy
Begins March 18, 2003
The Los Alamitos Police Department
will offer a Citizen Academy, March 18 – May 20, 2003. Classes will be
held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with most sessions
convening in the City Council Chambers.
The Citizen Academy was developed
to provide citizens with an understanding of law enforcement’s role in
the community. This ten-week program provides an overview of the Los
Alamitos Police Department’s structure, philosophy, operations and
services. Through hands-on demonstrations and exercises, participants
will experience a variety of activities that police officers deal with
on a daily basis. They will also have the opportunity to go on a police
ride-along.
There is no fee for the academy;
however, applicants must be at least 18 years of age, must live or work
in Los Alamitos, must not have any felony convictions, and must not have
any misdemeanor arrests within one year of application to the program.
Due to the sensitive nature of information provided in the program,
final acceptance for the academy will be at the discretion of the Chief
of Police. Selection procedures require completion of an application and
a modified personal history statement, an oral interview and a cursory
background investigation.
For additional information or an
application for the Citizen Academy, please contact Sergeant Rick DeLeon
at (562) 431-2255, ext. 438.
